The Ion Exchange Process

Inside ShowerSoft, thousands of tiny resin beads are preloaded with sodium ions (Na+). When hard water flows through, calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) ions swap places with the sodium.
The hardness minerals get trapped in the resin. The sodium enters your water. Result? Soft water that's gentle on your hair and skin.
Factory performance testing indicates meaningful hardness reduction. Independent third party testing is planned.

Most 1 to 2 person households regenerate every 2 to 3 weeks. Frequency depends on your water hardness (GPG) and how long your showers are — harder water exhausts the resin faster, and longer showers use more capacity per session. ShowerSoft includes two filter elements, which roughly doubles capacity compared to single-element competitors. The regeneration process takes 10 to 30 minutes and uses 500g of table salt.
The table below is based on 10 GPG (US average hardness) with 2 filter elements installed. Use inexpensive hardness test strips (available online, not included) to find your GPG level and adjust accordingly — at 20 GPG expect roughly half the interval shown.

Many shower filters are designed to reduce chlorine, odors, and sediment. ShowerSoft is designed to reduce hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) using ion exchange, which is a different process. Filters can help with chlorine (results vary). ShowerSoft is not recommended if chlorine removal is your main goal.
